Spray drying is an efficient continuous manufacturing process designed to convert various liquid feeds into free-flowing dry powders. The specialized equipment is designed to atomize a liquid feed into fine droplets which are rapidly dried through direct contact with heated airflow to form uniform dry solid particles.
Spray drying technology generally produces smaller, almost spherical particles with a more uniform bulk density than other methods of drying.
Various operating parameters, equipment setup and/or feed properties can be modified to alter particle size, bulk density and moisture content as needed to meet a range of product specifications.
Drum drying is another efficient continuous manufacturing process designed to convert various liquid feeds into free-flowing dry powders or flakes. In this process, liquid is fed between two rotating steam heated double drums. As the drums rotate, the liquid sticks to the drum surface creating a thin layer of material which is dried and scraped from the drum surface. The dried sheet or film is then augered to a hammer mill to refine the product to the desired particle size.
Unlike other methods of drying, drum drying technology typically produces larger, less uniform powders or flakes which results in a wider bulk density range.
Drum rotation speed, drum temperature, gap between drums, hammer mill setting and/or feed properties can be modified to alter particle size, particle distribution, bulk density and moisture content to meet a range of product specifications.
Paddle drying is thermally efficient semi-batch method primarily used for drying high solids content slurries or sludges. The system utilizes externally-heated paddles, or blades, to process granular and powdery materials through rotational agitation. By design, the system allows for the reduction of moisture content in marginally flowable or non-flowable materials while minimizing off-gas generation.
Heating (or cooling) medium and mechanical agitation rate can be modified to alter product moisture content and other physical characteristics.
