Our Company History and Current Operations
Valentine Chemicals is a division of Valentine Sugars, Inc., a privately held Company located in Lockport, Louisiana. In addition to its chemical operation, Valentine operates a 1500 acre farm, which surrounds its 30-acre chemical production facility and has interest in oil and gas wells and rental properties.
Our Company history is one of chemical innovations , beginning in the 1930's. We first discovered that a resin, later trade-named Valite™ , could be made from bagasse, a by-product of sugar cane. When shellac was unavailable during World War II, Valite™ became the material of choice for phonograph records. Valite™ was later developed into phenolic based resins and continued to be produced until 1997.
Parallel research resulted in Valentine developing and building the world's first paper mill making paper from baggase. This technology is now being used in many countries around the world.
In 1985 Valentine added spray drying capacity to produce phenolics for the fast growing wafer board industry. Since then Valentine has continually expanded its skill in converting aqueous slurries into powders. Most recently Valentine has added drum drying capacity to offer its customers a wider range of options.
Valentine is continually making improvements to its facility and skills to provide competitively priced, high quality services.
