Our Company History and Current Operations

Valentine Chemicals is a privately held company located in Lockport, Louisiana. Its 10 acre chemical production facility is surrounded by a 1000 acre sugar cane farm.

Our company history is one of chemical innovations, beginning in the 1930’s. We first developed a resin, later trade-named Valite ™, made from bagasse, a by-product of sugar cane. When shellac was unavailable during World War II, Valite ™ became the material of choice for phonograph records. Valite ™ later developed phenol-formaldehyde based resins and continued producing and selling them until 1997.

Valentine also developed a method to make pulp and paper from sugarcane and in 1953 built the world’s first sugarcane based paper mill, now being used in many countries around the world.

In 1985 Valentine added spray drying capacity to produce phenolics for the fast growing oriented strand/wafer board industry. Since then Valentine has continually expanded its skill in converting aqueous slurries into powders. In 2003 Valentine added drum drying capacity to offer its customers a wider range of options and has expanded steadily.

Valentine is continually making improvements to its facility and skills to provide competitively priced, high quality services.
